Love molds

Image
I made a deal with myself at the beginning of February that I would do at least one post a week on love, because well, it's love month, right? So, final installment: I first saw Ian and Larissa's story about a year ago and was blown away. In my mind I think I knew that logically, Christ-like love would look like this, but when I saw it lived out in reality, I almost didn't know how to respond.  So challenging, encouraging, humbling, heart-breaking, uplifting. Since I watched the video, I have been following their blog, and  when Larissa posted the other day, I knew that I had to share it. So simple, so true. And I am so thankful that they are willing to bless others with their story. To God be the glory. "ian is not to be pitied. i am not to be pitied. God is to be rejoiced." I think that's what challenges me the most, that joy or pain, their goal is to rejoice in the God of their salvation and to bring glory to him. "the...

madness: on love [february appopriate]

Image
it's been a month of late night wakefulness, head on the pillow, mind mulling over faces and names and places, and thinking about this thing called love. sometimes it feels like madness.   it's been a month of heart breaking and mind numbing facts about the ugly truth of abortions. the massive genocide taking place on this continent in the name of "planning" or erasing the ugly memories, or preventing the "poor quality of life," comes down to nothing more than thousands of babies who cannot speak for themselves having their lives ended by some person who never had the right to determine their quality of life or right to live in the first place. it's been a month of rising awareness and reminders that all over this nation and the world, beautiful, innocent girls and women are being sold as commodities so that someone somewhere can attempt to fill the empty void as well as fill their empty pockets. so much selfishness. so much ugly. so muc...

Weekends are for Work: overheard lately

Image
"Smell my Folgers." "I don't wear pants anymore." "I see dead people." "My bottom feels good!"  "I killed a man once." "I don't get to cut clothes off of people nearly as much as I'd like to." "If you limit your perception to what you expect, you will miss realities..." Happy weekending, folks! May your shift be as busy as you want it to be.

belated valetimes. Just cuz. :)

I missed out on posting on Valentines Day because I was driving through Missouri, or something. But I didn't want to let the Valentine's goodness pass unmentioned! So here you go. Better late than never. First off, I got some sweet postcards from Love146 that both supported a worthy cause and gave me an excuse to stick stamps on paper and mail them. (because. I still like snail mail. and real, live books.) AND! I could write all over them with a sharpie. I love sharpies. Sappy alert! [It's true. I am sappy sometimes.] For your viewing pleasure, this part of You've Got Mail. (Which happens to be my favorite chick flick.) "How about coffee or drinks or dinner or a movie... for as long as we both shall live." Favorite line of the movie. For reals. And this Mr. Darcy quote :) from here . and that's all. thanks for stopping by. :)

exchanging pleasantries

Hey so I'm sick today. That means no kissing, Liz. R ight. I'll keep that in mind. Oh poop. Poop, poop, poop. (pause) I can't say anything else cuz i'm around kids a lot. Not good for them to hear those other words. Say, could you wipe my schnoz? that would be a negative. but i'll sure give you some tissue. Yeah, my husband died just a little while a go. ( sympathetic face. mumbling something about being sorry.) Yeah. It's really a bummer because I lost all of his social security income! (raises eyebrows) oh, is that right? Friend: Alright now, you behave. ( commence shuffling out the door.) Patient: (giggles) I'll try not to molest them. (winks at me) I'll keep my hands to myself! and this is the part where I am glad that I can drive and laugh at my partners trapped in the back. I hate hospitals! Hate them. Can't trust those people. why's that? Well! My father went in for his fifth bypass surgery. Never heard from him si...

Projects (so far)

My Bridge Radio is amazing . I wish that Hot Springs would not be such a black hole for radio stations :P But they provided me with my first project of the year : memorizing and meditating on a verse (or two) a week. I am not memorizing verses for school, which I had done for the first 15 years of my academic journey, so I thought this would be great for the self discipline factor. I already had pretty much all of these memorized from one time or another, but I am becoming an ESV-ite so these verses are emphasized in a new light to me as I memorize them in a different version. This month's verses: week 1: Ps 1:1-2 "Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night." week 2: Rom 8:32 "He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give ...

And I Quote

"Therefore my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain." 1 Corinthians 15:58 [ the verse of the week ] " God is most glorified in you when you are most satisfied in him, in the midst of loss and not prosperity " -John Piper "On an every day basis we have so many opportunities to share our stories... it doesn't take a stage, it doesn't take a t-shirt, it doesn't take a book. It's just life . It's being available, being willing to be transparent and vulnerable with the people around you... that's where your story can make a difference, that's where we get to rescue and be rescued and love and learn to be loved... ...it's just people...community...churches...being there.... loving people ..."
