Love molds

Image
I made a deal with myself at the beginning of February that I would do at least one post a week on love, because well, it's love month, right? So, final installment: I first saw Ian and Larissa's story about a year ago and was blown away. In my mind I think I knew that logically, Christ-like love would look like this, but when I saw it lived out in reality, I almost didn't know how to respond.  So challenging, encouraging, humbling, heart-breaking, uplifting. Since I watched the video, I have been following their blog, and  when Larissa posted the other day, I knew that I had to share it. So simple, so true. And I am so thankful that they are willing to bless others with their story. To God be the glory. "ian is not to be pitied. i am not to be pitied. God is to be rejoiced." I think that's what challenges me the most, that joy or pain, their goal is to rejoice in the God of their salvation and to bring glory to him. "the

Dear Dark Chocolate Covered Pomegranates , thank you for your decadent goodness.   Dear Gutter , why does your leak have to be right above my door? Not a fan.  Dear Boys Who Took us in the Taxi , I would relive our adventure downtown any day.  Dear Kansas City . I have been thinking about all of your amazing food. And your downtown enchanting lights and strategically placed coffee shops. Also, did I mention all of my friends that are there? Yup. Cannot wait for our reunion.  Dear Ajax, thanks for being the amazing dog that you were. You are responsible for restoring my faith in dogs. I miss your crazy games and your obsession with watching TV and your a.dorable face. I just  MISS YOU.  Dear Future Self , I know right now the idea of getting paid to be the "merch lady" sounds like a really great excuse to follow your favorite bands around, but I am not so sure that it will be a good long term decision.  Dear Mornings , this is all I have to say about you:

Love in Community

Image
There is something incredibly refreshing about face to face catch-ups (This coming from a social media addict, I know, I know) .But, somehow the "how are you's" and "what have you been up to's" hold much more meaning when you can sit across from each other and share moments filled with voice inflection and crinkles around the eyes and furrowed brows and hands that tap the table.    Community, whether stretched over long distances and kept up via internet sources, or met in the day today interactions of people who color my life, is something that I have come to value big time over these past couple of years. There is just such a comfort  in my heart to know that there are people who will listen to the same story three times over, and laugh at the stupid jokes, and call me out when I am being ridiculous, and who will challenge my thinking and who will pray for me when they say they will pray for me. It's in the Sunday morning groups of talking a

To be vulnerable

"To love at all is to be vulnerable.  Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken.  If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket -safe, dark, airless-it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable." -C.S. Lewis

Music Monday: Sleeping At Last

The first time I heard this song over a year ago, I had it on repeat all day.  Maybe it's the fact that I had a short night of sleep last night, but my Spotify Sleeping At Last playlist is proving to be a good chill background for wiping snotty noses and answering the "why?" question over and over again. This guy has got some great EP projects going on that you should definitely check out! PS, check out Leah's music monday post while we're at it!

madness: on love [february appopriate]

Image
it's been a month of late night wakefulness, head on the pillow, mind mulling over faces and names and places, and thinking about this thing called love. sometimes it feels like madness.   it's been a month of heart breaking and mind numbing facts about the ugly truth of abortions. the massive genocide taking place on this continent in the name of "planning" or erasing the ugly memories, or preventing the "poor quality of life," comes down to nothing more than thousands of babies who cannot speak for themselves having their lives ended by some person who never had the right to determine their quality of life or right to live in the first place. it's been a month of rising awareness and reminders that all over this nation and the world, beautiful, innocent girls and women are being sold as commodities so that someone somewhere can attempt to fill the empty void as well as fill their empty pockets. so much selfishness. so much ugly. so muc
